We have been proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Taylorsville community for more than seventy years. We are a vibrant and active small-town family of faith that seeks to be the body of Christ in the world, sharing through word and deed, the grace we have received and the good news of salvation through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Together, we are one family, guided by the Holy Spirit, welcoming all who desire to know, worship and serve Christ. Our mission statement defines us well: A family of grace, growing in faith, sharing God’s love.
We thank you for visiting our website, and would truly welcome the opportunity to have you as our guest. We worship each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Come and be a part of our family of faith!
This three-in-one God has created us and claimed us as God’s own through the waters of Baptism, has redeemed us and given us the promise of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and through the Holy Spirit, unites us as the Body of Christ and accompanies us in our life together.
We accept the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the inspired Word of God and the authoritative source and norm of our proclamation, faith and life.
We believe that Baptism marks the death of the old sinner and the birth of a new creation. Joined to Christ’s death and resurrection, we become a child of God and an inheritor of God’s eternal kingdom. It also marks the formal entrance into the church, which is the community of God’s saints in all times and places. The gift of Baptism is offered to all, with no regard for age or station in life.
We believe that in the bread and wine of Holy Communion, Christ is present, giving his body and blood. Through this holy meal, we receive the gifts of life, salvation, and the forgiveness of sins. Holy Communion is offered to all baptized Christians.
We trust that we are loved, blessed, gifted, and forgiven people who are saved by the grace of God.
A proposal for a Lutheran Mission was approved by the North Carolina Synod, and planning for the new church began. A parsonage and lot for the future church were purchased, and Reformation Lutheran Church was officially organized December 1, 1946. Its first worship service was held Christmas Eve, 1946, at First Baptist Church.
The congregation worshipped for a time at the local high school, and then at the Taylorsville A. R. Presbyterian Church, until such a time when it could have its own church building. The new House of Worship was opened on May 20, 1951, and the congregation became an established part of the Taylorsville community.
Over the years, the church and its ministries grew, as did its need to expand its facilities. In 1995, a new parsonage was purchased on the west side of the church, and the original parsonage converted to church offices and boardroom. A new family life center, Reformation Hall, was later constructed on the site of the former parsonage and dedicated to the glory of God in May, 2006. It has been used extensively by members of the church and community.
For more than 70 years, Reformation Lutheran Church has served Christ and the communities of Alexander County. Through the years, leadership has been provided by twelve pastors. Each has brought gifts and experiences that have helped the congregation continue to grow in its mission and ministry.
